Choosing His Path by LightK

The ancient vampire always thought that in his final death, pain would be present, no matter what way he would pass. Meeting the sun was a welcoming sight… he remembers how he liked to walk barefoot with the sun washing his face – that was one of few good memories he has of Rome, oh his time with his monstrous maker that had such influence in his life.

Instead, when the sun met him, all he felt was a feeling of water caressing his pale skin. For someone that venerated the elements – especially water, the font of human survival – this was his best way to meet his final judgment. Godric knew that even though he had he had made many good deeds in his lasts undead centuries, the monster he was for so long – even after the rebirth of his child – was not enough to attune all the bad things he has made in his long life as a vampire.

The young Gaul was ready to put the guns on the ground and surrender to the heavens door. He just prayed that his child could find something, or maybe even a certain blond someone, so his life wouldn’t go to waste and when they finally met again in the afterlife his beloved Eric wouldn’t be punished for Godric’s teachings when his child was still young in the vampire life.

The true death was quick, painless and he stayed conscious the whole time.

First he felt the ground touch his toes, then his whole feet was pressed against a fresh and moist grass. He didn’t remember closing his eyes, maybe it was when he felt the first ray of sunshine back on earth or maybe after being burn and transported to the grounds of Teutates – the god may not be of the underworld but he was the one the young Gaul answered to, he was his ancestor god.

Godric was no coward, he was going to accept his punishment with his head held high, that was who he was and being in the presence of one of the gods he admire wasn’t going to change that. Opening his eyes, the first thing that came to his mind was a big “wow”. Surrounding the vampire sheriff was the most unexpected sight that the Gaul could think.

He was standing on a platform made of only grass and land, floating above the clouds. The sky was in an eternal twilight, the stars danced like fireflies illuminating the various paths that were available to the ancient vampire. Planets were close to one another, like there was no universe separating them, the moons passed for planet to planet, never choosing which planet they belonged. The view was breathtaking, and the Gaul had traveled to all corners of the earth.

Attaching the platform he was in and the infinite number of planets were all types of ladders – some were made of hard stone, others of rare precious stones, some seemed well used and others where covered in moss. At the end of each stairway, guarding it, were two statues, and like the stairs the guardians were made of the same material and was obvious the ones that were most used.

Looking around himself, it became quite obvious to the sheriff that he himself was the one who had to make a choice. There was nothing that told him where every stairway led, so he had to trust his gut one last time. The precious stone ones were beautiful yes, but the vampire didn’t felt like following that path, the hard stone and simple wood ones were not to him too, so that left the ones where moss were present. All of them were appealing but the one were the statues were of a sea creature and an earth one was his chosen one.

Walking to it, he made eye contact with the statue of the sea. It became alive for just mere seconds, but it was enough to bow to the vampire. Godric had a feeling that his other God was here to observe his judgment. Poseidon was to Godric his Patron, him being born on the cost, the sea was so much his home as were the land.

Reaching the top, Godric wasn’t expecting what met him – the vampire was again awed of the beauty that welcomed him. He was standing on the top of a massive waterfall, with a bridge crossing between where he was and the other side of the land. What was more impressive was the pathway from one land to another was element made, soil above the water let people like himself passage to the other side.

Godric was walking for some time, his bare feet touching the slightly wet soil. Finally he came to a stop, another choice was presented to him – should he go left or right? He chose left, his gut was telling him to, so he followed. All around him were wild animals – magical or not – and many types of vegetation. Arriving at a small pond, where all the trees leaves were of painted of a soft pink color.

There, in the center of the deep blue water, was floating a body of a woman. Her features were hard to see, even for his higher eye sight, but one thing was very visible – growing in her back was two small and fragile wings, one black and another white. She seemed in deep sleep, but Godric knew when magic was involved and that poor girl was being kept prisoner with a sleeping spell.

Instinctively, the vampire father of the Norseman, used what was left of his powers to try and reach the sleeping woman. Godric had felt when his powers being drained from his body the second he entered this realm. Maybe he should try to guard what was left of his vampire uniqueness, but his instinct was screaming for him to help her, so he did. Franticly, the Gaul tried waking the beauty that was presented to him – dark hair, fair skin, white thin dress that covered almost nothing – she was the kind of girl he would lust after even as a vampire.

-She won’t wake up! – a deep German accented voice spoke.

Godric moved as fast as he could, his powers fully drained. His white tunic was completely transparent since he was almost submerse in the lagoon, his previously perfect hair was wet and the color of dark chocolate. He was ready to defend himself, and to his immense surprise, the women who he didn’t even know the name.

The man who he view as a treat was tall, as tall as Eric in Godric’s opinion, short black hair with some white in it, pull back in a stylish way – something that Godric assumed Eric wouldn’t mind wearing – and his eyes were a light green color. If he hadn’t threatening Godric’s basic instincts moments before, the Gaul would for sure feel at ease with the presence of this newcomer.

-What do you mean “She won’t wake up”? – Godric forced himself to reply, something was off with the man at the shore – She can’t be left here!

The man seemed to ponder if he should answer Godric, finally he came to a conclusion – She will only wake up when she goes back to Earth!

That simple sentence brought Godric’s full attention to the girl who his beast was trying very hard to protect. Her features were soft, in human years she would be no more than 20 year old – at least if his mind didn’t fail him – and her hair was wild and so black that her skin made her look like a vampire.

-She died very young! – the man spoke, bringing Godric out of his examination – She’s powerful, but her powers were made to be free on the young planet, here she will waste away forever…

-So why don’t someone bring her to where she will be awake and free? – Godric traces her small features, from her brow to her lips.

There was silence for almost one minute, then the answer came – Because I haven’t found someone worthy enough to take care of her!

That sentence brought a wild and feral roar from the vampire mouth. The being that was before him was responsible for her suffering. The water raged with the Gaul, responding to the creature who worshiped her for so long. Godric felt his powers coming back to him, all the draining forgotten as well as his judgment – which he didn’t even thought about since stepping foot in the realm – all that matter was that he wanted to hurt the one responsible for such horrendous act and especially to free her.

-I had hoped for this response, my dear Death God! – the being spoke again, this time a big smile in his face showing his perfect teeth – You were always one of my favorites Gahd-rik!

As he talked, he bought his hand up. In his big thumb, a ring was held, and as the rays of sunshine hit the metal tree letters were visible, TOT. All the fury and anger dissipated in an instant from Godric’s body, he felt almost compelled to bow to the being that he prayed so many times when he was still young and human. Teutates was in front of him, and all he did was being hostile to the god – his punishment would be great!

-Do not bow to those who brought you here, my young protégé! – another voice spoke, this one coming from behind the vampire. It was warm and very welcoming, like the sun in a day of beach – In fact we were the ones who should be honored, a Demigod capable of access his powers in this realm, where only few can even enter it…

-Don, I was thinking that you forgot the date! – Teutates spoke, walking on the water, his voice having a playful tone – We don’t have much time left…

Poseidon just bowed his head lightly for his fellow God. Godric notice how his hair was so similar to his child, blond with some waves and his eyes, so much like Eric’s – He is my son, mine and another Goddess, born in a mortal body!

-This can be left for another time! – Teutates said, this time his voice was almost panicking – The other one has almost convince her to get back to play his little game…

With this information both Gods seem to lose all playfulness and both became very serious. Poseidon wave his hand, and where once were trees with the pink leaves, was now millions of giant trees which resemblance a very big mushroom – all of them surrounding the lake where the sleeping girl, two Gods and one Demigod were observing.

-What is happening? – Godric finally asked.

-You aren’t dead! – a big sound of a slap was heard in all the enchanted forest – What you said that there was no time to lose…

-Don, now is not the time to play your games… please! – Teutates couldn’t hide his smile however – Godric, my dear chosen one, time is short so I’ll tell you the basics…

Godric just nodded, although he wasn’t accustomed to follow orders and bow without questions – that is something for the young vamps – but he here he could almost feel the taste of anxiety waving from the Gods pores.

Teutates took a long breath and then he spoke again – On Earth there is a hiding world, just like the ones of Vampires and Werewolfs, this one is of magical people… they mostly are on Europe, they have their own laws and prisons! They are magic users, different from what you are used to…

-They, especially the ones from England, are very prejudice and have been in war for many years, with some peace in between… – Poseidon added, concern in his voice – We brought you here so you could choose to help this one girl, who is destined to kill the one who murdered her parents, or just decide to forget about her!

-But so you know all the facts – Teutates says bringing Godric’s attention to him – When the magic ones stop the war with each other, the other races are in danger…

-You can influence that by saving this girl… She is the most powerful of them all and she never had a family…

Suddenly the water that they are standing sifts and all three men see the hand of the brunette beauty starting to fade. Poseidon was panicking, it was painted in his expression.

-You need to choose now! – he says to the Gaul – She could be the one for you, you just need to choose wisely…

Godric felt his need for a companion rise once more. He knew when his child had found his match, it was the perks of being a maker, but he himself craved for that felling that Eric felt the first time he met Sookie. In that moment he felt jealous of his child – which he now feels shame.

Looking around himself, all the trees were the same shape and color – which was again a soft pink. The water shift again, her form was disappearing fast and he didn’t know which one he should choose.

-Just follow your instinct! It brought you here! – Poseidon says, it was like he was reading the mind of the young Gaul.

-There is always a door leading to a world filled marvelous species and with a destiny to fulfill! You just need to choose which dimension you want to travel to, and then let go…

On Earth, in a hidden world, a girl who all her life pretended to be a boy, took a breath knowing that the battle was almost over – at least the this one…
